29 million € fine for Duravit for participating in price fixing cartel
The European commission has imposed a fine of over 29 million € against Duravit due to a price cartel. Between 1992 and 2004, according to the cartel office, 17 manufacturers of bathroom fittings have conducted illegal price fixtures, minimum prices and discounts and have exchanged confidential business information in 6 EU countries.
This cartel has harmed companies like building contractors, plumbers and not least many families.
People or companies which have been hit by the described competitive behaviour of Duravit can claim these damages in courts of the EU member states if applicable.
„The companies have to realize that the commission will continue their fight against cartels and that the fines will stay high. That is how companies shall be kept away from causing illegal behaviour“, said Joaquín Alumina, vice president of the comission and competition commissioner.
When fixing the fine the commission took into account the affected sales figures, the severety and the long duration of violation caused by Duravit.

Objection to penalty charge notice
According to a release dated 4th November 2010 by the law firm Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partners, the company Duravit has objected against a fine imposed by the European commission for participating in a price cartel.
